forms for starting an internet business at home

Forming an internet business in Illinois. What do I need to do?
I’m forming an internet start-up in Illinois (essentially in the publishing business) and I’d like to incorporate it. Does anyone know what exactly I have to do? I’ve read that I may need some sort of permission in every state that I operate in, is this true? As my business will be online and thus worldwide do I need to incorporate everywhere or just in Illinois? Also, I will be running the business out of my home, do I need a permit to do that or not as it will be exclusively online?
Every state and county regulations are different. Check out http://business.illinois.gov/startup.cfm for information for your specific state.
To answer a few of your questions as an internet business myself (based in Florida but selling worldwide):
You can incorporate in any state (many incorporate in Delaware as there are tax advantages) and you can do it online. Just google “incorporating my business”. Incorporating your business is recognized federally, not just in the state you incorporate.
You do not need permission to sell in every state.
Some counties and cities require licensing, some don’t. The illinois website I linked to above should answer those questions or contact your local business permit division.
